Summer beauty essentials

There’s something about that effortless, golden, radiant summer skin look that gets me every single year. I'm always looking for the product (or four) that is going to help me achieve the ‘I’ve just come back from a relaxing week in Ibizia and I look like this when I wake up’ look. Of course, that doesn’t exist but I have discovered a few things that are helping me to get a little bit closer to achieving the dream.

For me, summer makeup is all about minimal effort, minimal product but maximum glow. I don’t want products slipping down my face in the heat and I don’t want to spend ages applying them. I want to get up, throw them on and go. These products have been key in my routine so far this summer and I feel they’re setting me up well for when those lazy hazy days finally roll in.

Isle of Paradise Self Tan Drops in Medium

Isle of Paradise Tanning Drops in Medium*: I’ve tried pretty much every fake tan out there and this is by far my favourite way to tan my face. They’re super easy to use, just mix a couple of drops in with your moisturiser, and rub thoroughly into your skin. They give the most beautiful and even golden radiance to the skin and because you can mix them in with whatever moisturiser you usually use you don’t need to forego your skincare favourites. They even out my skintone just enough so I can use much less foundation and they haven’t aggrevated my sensitive skin. Make sure you remove any excess from your hair line, brows, lips and sides of your nose and you’re good to go.

Cerave Moisturising Lotion SPF25

CeraVe Moisturising Lotion SPF 25*: Wearing an SPF is an essential all year round but particularly in the summer. This doesn’t feel like a heavy or chalky SPF, it feels just like a regular moisturiser so sits well under makeup and leaves skin feeling perfectly hydrated with a nice touch of radiance but doesn’t lean into that sweaty look that is far too easy to achieve in the heat. If I was in the sun all day long then I’d top up with a factor 50 but for day to day, going from the train to the office, this is perfect. Plus the squeezy tube makes it very travel friendly.

Becca Backlight Priming Filter

Becca Backlight Priming Filter*: The glow that this product gives is incredible. It instantly brightens your skin and leaves it looking plump, hydrated and as though you’ve had a full 8 hours sleep. I avoid my chin and the bridge of my nose so it doesn’t leave my skin looking too oily but across the cheeks and forehead this really helps to just give my skin that boost. On a particuarly good skin day I’d go for this, concealer and skip the foundation.

Benefit Hoola Quickie Contour Stick

Benefit Hoola Quickie Contour Stick*: A cream product is going to give a much more radiant finish than a powder so this is the perfect summer bronzing option. It can be built up for a deeper colour and as there is no shimmer or glitter in the product it’s a much more natural, and I think contemporary, way to go for a radiant bronzed look. Personally I wouldn’t contour with this, its far too warm for me to use it for that but as a bronzer it’s perfect. I take a little straight from the stick on a brush and buff it into my cheekbones, forehead and anywhere else I want a little bronze. A little goes a long way so I find this gives me a lot more control over the product and ends in a more natural look.

I may not look quite like I’ve just stepped off that plane from a chilled trip to Ibizia but these products are definitley gettig me much closer to achiving that look than I have in any other year. They all compliment each other, so with just a touch of concealer, mascara and a brush of my brows I’m pretty much good to go every day. I can get the look I want without relying on a tonne of products or spending too long applying them when all I really want to do is head out in the sun.
